Saint-Brevin-the-Pines
Saint-Brevin-the-Pines is a common French, located in the department of Loire-Atlantique and the area Pays of the Loire.
The common belongs to the historical Brittany, in the traditional country of the Pays of Retz and in the historical country of the Nantes Pays. Its inhabitants is called the Brévinois and Brévinoises .
Heraldic
Quartered in saltire, with the one: of azure to a gold escutcheon to the sand cross which is Ray, to both: of gold to the squirrel of mouths, the three: also of gold to the sinople pine to the sand trunk, the four: first with the nave equipped and equipped with money sailing on a sea with same driving point
The blazon of Saint-Brevin-the-Pines takes again the following symbols:
- A ship, which recalls that the city was first of all a town of sailors,
- A pine, because this tree was established in the commune more than one century ago to prevent the sand of the beaches from returning in the city. This species of tree is very present in the drill of Pierre Attelée, the wood of the Willow plantation, wood of the Punch and on all the commune in general.
- A squirrel, these animals with russet-red peeling raffolent pine cones of pines, one sees some everywhere, in all the parks… Witnesses of their passages, remainders of pine cones…
- The weapons of Rais recall the membership of Saint-Brevin to the Pays of Retz.
History
The first references to the city go up with 1104, it was first of all primarily a town of sailors, fishermen and farmers. It was then set up in Marquisat at the 17th century and the point of Mindin was strengthened in order to protect it from English.At the 19th century the city evolves little by little to the state that one knows to him now. In 1810 the first land register clarifies the danger of the sea which corrodes little by little the dunes. In 1860 one plants pines to stabilize sand; the commune was called then Saint-Brévin and it is only in 1899 that one decides to re-elect it in Saint-Brévin-the-Pines in the honor of the trees which saved the city of the stranding.
In 1882 begins construction of what will become Saint-Brévin-the Ocean, with its casino, the Vault Saint-Louis (1889)…
During the Second world war Saint-Brévin-the-Pines is very damaged, and one can still nowadays see the Blockhaus left by the Germans on the coast.
Since 1951 the city lost its accent and thus names Saint-Br' e' wine-the-Pines and not Saint-Br' E wine-the-Pines even if much still writes it this manner.
Geography
Saint-Brevin-the-pines is a Seaside resort being located at the estuary of the the Loire on southern bank. The city is along a dune wooded of pines tandis which articulates itself around two boroughs: Pines and the Ocean. The city has several beaches, like the beaches of Mindin, of the Duchess Anne, and the Pines close to the downtown area, and others still, more in the south like that of the Hermitage or the station known as Saint-Brevin-the Ocean.Saint-Brevin also profits from the radiation of Saint-Nazaire to thrive; a long time these two cities had as average connection only the “vat” which one took with the point Mindin. Since 1974 and the construction of the Pont of Saint-Nazaire it became much easier to go from one city to the other. Moreover, the exemption from payment of the bridge since October 1st, 1994 caused to increase the exchanges between the two cities and thus made it possible the commune of develop.
It is also with an about sixty kilometers of Nantes what puts it at less than one hour of this one (by the train via Saint-Nazaire and/or by the road).
The commune of Saint-Brévin-the-Pines is surrounded by that of Corsept, Saint-Father-in-Retz, Saint-Michel-Chief-Chief and Saint-Nazaire.

Surrounding communes
Saint-Brevin is delimited by the sea on all his west coast, his coast northern is delimited by the Loire. Other side of this one, one has access to Saint-Nazaire via the Pont of Saint-Nazaire which takes really its feet on the commune of Mounting block-of-Brittany on northern bank.
It is surrounded of the following cities: in the east Saint-Father-in-Retz and Corsept. In the south Saint-Michel-Chief-Chief in edge of the forest of Pierre Harnessed. The more in the East Paimbœuf is and the more towards the South are the Plain-on-Sea and Préfailles or Pornic with about fifteen kilometers.

Demography
Since soon ten years, the population of Saint-Brevin-the-pines does not cease increasing and this phenomenon makes only year emplifier by year. Indeed its geographical location and quality of life that one finds there attracts world more and more. To date, its population turns around the 12.000 inhabitants.
Places and monuments
- Church
- Museum of the Navy, in Mindin. Formerly, the fort of Mindin (built in 1861 at the entry of the estuary) belonged to the National marine and was used to protect the entry from the river. Since 1983, it became a museum.
- One does not count less than 9 megaliths with Saint-Brevin of which most famous are the menhir of the Rock of the meadows called " Pierre of Gargantua " and the Dolmen of the Nightingales.
- Forest of Pierre Harnessed and forest of maritime pines
- One can note the destruction in 2004 of the casino of Saint-Brevin-the Ocean; this one formed integral part of the inheritance Brevinois, it was centenary, certainly a little old, in bad condition, its hotel was closed… But it had a charm that the new one will never have…

- the city has accommodated for a few years an air festival the July 14th with the presence of the Patrouille of France, followed traditional fireworks.
- the " moule" celebrates; is organized every year in summer. With the program: music, mussels fried
- Every year in addition to fires of artifices of the August 15th and the July 14th the city accommodates a pyrotechnical festival where three nations (of which France) present their work (in August).
- Pressed Dunes, race of endurance open to all on the dunes (on August 15th).
- Since 1995, the festival of Kites " Inflated in Bloc" is held on the beach vis-a-vis the Casino the last weekend of August animated by association " Eoliens" under the crook of the tourist office.
