Saint-Bonnet-of-Chavagne

Saint-Bonnet-with-Chavagne is a common French, located in the department of the Isere and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Its inhabitants is called the Chavanais .

Geography

History

In the province of Dauphine, the parish of Saint-Bonnet is mentioned, as of XIIe century, in the cartulaire of Saint-Barnard. In 1209, GUI, prior of Saint-Bonnet, is pilot of a donation made at the hospital of Novels. In 1580, Pierre of Chastelard is vice-chancellor of the vault Holy-Blaise, founded in the parish church.

In the old mode, Saint-Bonnet belongs to mandement of Clérieux and the community of Saint-Lattier. Saint-bonnet depended on the Parliament of Grenoble and the Saint-Marcellin cheese bailliage.

In 1790, the commune of Saint-Bonnet-of-Chavagne, is resulting from the dismemberment of the community of Saint-Lattier, and was integrated in the canton of Sône. Since 1801, it is attached to the Saint-Marcellin cheese canton.

the castle of Arthaudière

The Castle of Arthaudière, classified with the Historic buildings in 1991, located on the heights of the commune of Saint-Bonnet-of-Chavagne, testifies to a Renaissance architecture and size last to two families to local lords, Arthaud and of the Door. The successive architectural rehandlings left the print of each period, of the Middle Ages at the XIXe century. The castle and the gardens are the subject today of an important restoration campaign led by the Town hall of Saint-Bonnet-of-Chavagne, with the assistance of the General advice of Isere, the Ministry for the Culture and the European Union. These various authorities work with the Association of the Friends of Arthaudière, created in February 2000 for the safeguard of the castle and its environment. Since June 2005, a space of reception and exposure was arranged in the stables of the castle.

Three big families lived with the castle of Arthaudière, of XIIIe at the end of the XIXe century: Arthaud, Of the Door and of Marcieu. Among the members of these families, one counts some famous characters: advisers of the Dolphin, lieutenants of the Royal army, magistrates at the Parliament…

Starting from a first strong house of XIIIe century, the castle knows several work campaigns until the XIXe century. The XXe century is marked by the destruction of the wing Is by a fire in 1952. Today, the castle is composed of three bodies of buildings laid out in " U" around a court. The field includes/understands also a whole of gardens laid out in terraces.

The owners of this house-strong are known for us since Berthon of Chatelard in XIVe century whose grandson, Robert, are quoted in 1475 among the noble ones mandement of Saint-Lattier.

Friends of Arthaudière

Association the Friends of Arthaudière, created in the year 2000, has the role the animation of the site of the Château of Arthaudière. She proposes visits of this monument and present of the spectacles during all of summer.
