Geography

Saint-bonnet is on the northern slope of the solid mass of the Dore mounts. The various hamlets of the commune are aligned in the high valley of Sioule

The commune is made up of the borough and several villages: Juegheat, Voissieux, Vareilles, Olmont, Villejacques, the mill the villejacques ones, Farges, Polagnat, the Small barrack, mouillards and part of the Bridge-of-Water village.

At the 18th century, Saint-Bonnet was regarded as a ground " enough good, producing bestiaux." Currently, its ground is entirely dedicated to the breeding of the bovines like all the canton of Rochefort.

Administration

The settlement is old; in 1912 close to the village of Juégheat, an attachment of ploughing was inserted in an arched cavity which seemed a Roman construction, some excavations made it possible to discover many Tesson S, a Meule out of basalt and a polished stone axe.

Before the Revolution of 1789, the territory of Saint-Bonnet was divided into several Seigneurie S (Voissieux, Saint-Bonnet, Vareilles, Villejacques and Polagnat).

The Château of Voissieux dates from the S but it was altered several times during the centuries. That of Polagnat, mentioned for the first time in 1270, was several times modified during the centuries. In Vareilles existed also a castle but it is in ruin since the 17th century.
