Saint-Arnoult-in-Yvelines is a common department of the Yvelines, in the area Île-de-France, in France, located at 14 km to the south-east of Rambouillet.

The name of the commune comes from Saint Arnoult, which was buried there towards 535.

The inhabitants are called Arnolphiens.

Geography

Largely timbered commune, Saint-Arnoult-in-Yvelines is located in the main forest of Rambouillet and in the valley of the Rémarde, affluent of the Orge.

The territory is mainly rural (76%), this part being devoted to the forest (approximately 40% of the territory) and to agriculture. The habitat is concentrated in the borough which occupies the bottom of the valley of Rémarde overflowing on the plate towards the North-East. Towards the west, a hamlet, Meurgers is, with the limit of common towards Sonchamp.

The commune is bordering on Rochefort-in-Yvelines in the North-East, of Longvilliers in the east, Dourdan (the Essonne) in south-east, of Holy-Mesme in the south, Ponthévrard in south-east, Sonchamp in the west, Clairefontaine-in-Yvelines in the North-West and Bullion in north.

It is served mainly by the secondary road D988 which connects Limours to Ablis. It is crossed by the highway A10 in its south-eastern part, as by the line at high speed Atlantique whose layout is parallel to that of the highway. The highway exchanger nearest is to 6 km of the village in the common neighbor of Longvilliers.

She was formerly served by the railway line Paris-Chartres by Gallardon which connected it to Chartres since 1917 but this line was not never completed towards Paris and was finally displaced in 1953.

History

This territory was included at the time Gallic, like most of Yvelines, in the field of the tribe of the Carnutes. The origin of the village is related to Arnoult saint who was buried there towards 535 and whose burial became a place of pilgrimage thereafter.

To the 18th century and until the revolution, the field of Saint-Arnoult belongs to the family of Rohan-Rochefort.

  • Highway: the toll of Saint-Arnoult-in-Yvelines is most important of Europe. Although being in the commune of saint-Arnoult, his road access is done via the village close to Ponthévrard.
