Saint-Antonin-Noble-Valley is a common French, located in the department of Tarn-et-Garonne and the area the Midday-Pyrenees.
Located at the limit of the Rouergue and the borders of the Albigensian and the Quercy, Saint-Antonin is one of the oldest medieval cities which survived the risks of the history. It is surrounded by Bastide S and borders the western part of the National forest of Grésigne
Its site is protected in the throats from the Aveyron and cliffs from the Rock from Anglars.
Saint Antonin is a city with the prestigious past, his name comes from the baptized valley Nobilis Vallis by the Romans, it shelters the oldest town hall of France, it is a city medieval E authentic, whose lanes and alleys have more than 8 centuries, a whole inheritance of houses with warhead S, Colombages, roofed passageways… and whole of classified buildings or registered voters with the registers of the national inheritance.
The site is protected, it is that of the Gorges of Aveyron and the cliff S of the Rock of Anglars, of the Cirque of Bône… on one of the ways of Saint Jacques de Compostelle.
The lords of Saint-Antonin-Noble-Valley embraced the Albigensian Hérésie, which was worth at the town of be invaded by Simon de Montfort in 1212. In 1226, it entered the royal field; this time was going to be the apogee of its economic prosperity. But, as from the 17th century, the inhabitants lost little by little their privileges and the influence of the city decreased.
In 1351 the English invaded Saint-Antonin and at the time of the wars of religion, the inhabitants had still to suffer: follower of the Reform, the city attended a fight baited between catholics and Protestants. In 1622 Louis XIII seizes the city; in 1681, all the Protesting S were excluded from the political council and the consulate of Saint-Antonin.
In this time, reigned a rich person and powerful count on the " Noble-valley " , the valley of the Aveyron. Its name was Festus. He recognized the hand of God in this marvellous voyage and made deposit the Relique S of the Martyr in a luxurious mounting where later an abbey was high.
A monastic community developed very early, seems it, around the relics of Antonin saint. Thanks to generosities of the Carolingian sovereigns , in particular those of Pip of Aquitaine, the Abbey counted at the 9th century among the three large Abbaye S Bénédictine S of the Rouergue, at the sides of Conques and Vabres.
