Saint-Antoine-the Abbaye
Saint-Antoine-the Abbaye is a common French, located in the department of the Isere and the area the Rhone-Alps. Its inhabitants is called the Antonins .
Geography
History
A legend wants that the relics of Saint-Anthony were brought back of Holy Land by a local lord, at the 11th century. They are deposited in the village of the Mound-with-Wood (or the Mound-Saint-Didier), which becomes Saint-Anthony. The Bénédictins then begin the construction of a church and a hospital intended to look after the victims of the Mal Burning. To the 13th century, the Pope entrusts the places to the canons about Saint-Anthony. Great work of extension is undertaken of XIVe to XVIe century, period ostentation for the Order in general and the abbey in particular.
One turbid period follows, where the village suffers from the attacks related to and certain lord the wars of religion of the neighborhoods, so much so that the abbey is threatened of ruin. After a rebirth at the XVIIIe century, the Order of Saint-Anthony is seen constrained to be melted in the Ordre of Malta, which puts part of the buildings on sale. With the Revolution, the monks are driven out and their last sold buildings. In 1840, the church is classified " Monument historique" by Prosper Mérimée. Several restoration campaigns follow then, until the final classification of all the site in 1981.

the many and well restored buildings abbey dominate the medieval village with its small lanes and old houses (XIV°-XV° century for oldest).

the Abbaye of Saint-Anthony was founded to accommodate the relics of Saint Antoine-the Égytien. Its frontage of Gothic style blazing is set up in 1297.
- the abbey includes/understands many buildings: Abbey house, Large Cloister, Large Refectory, Professoir, Noviciate, library, infirmary, stables and gardens. The majority were modified with the XVII° and XVIII° centuries.
- the construction of the abbey church begins in 1130 and finishes at the end of the 15th century, with an interruption of 50 years (1289 - 1337) and a fire which destroys the bell-tower and the roofs in 1422.
- In 1777, the monastèreet its goods are transferred to the order from Midsummer's Day from Jerusalem (order of Malta).
- on December 7th, 1896, Mgr Fava sets up the monastery in abbey again, as a major monastery of the regular canons of the Immaculate Conception, with for abbot Dom Gréa (1828-1917).
