Saint-Antoine-of-Rock

Saint-Antoine-of-Rock is a common French, located in the department of Indre-et-Loire and the area Center.

Its inhabitants is called the Rocantoniens, Rocantoniennes .

Geography

History

The parish very early attested, named Saint Pierre of Beautiful-Valley. It is the presence of a hermit, Antoine, withdrawn in a cave located in the middle of the wood, which made prefer the name of the saint. According to the legend, the Saint Antoine de Touraine would have come as a Gaulle towards 543.

A source, is near the cave dedicated to Saint Antoine de Touraine; it with the reputation to cure the problems of skin. According to the legend, this fountain would be prohibited to the women because Saint Antoine de Touraine not having never known the desires of the flesh, had prohibited the access of the fountain to the women under pretext of disturb the purity of it.

The megaliths of the extreme south of the commune, represent the oldest vestiges of Saint Antoine. Most important, known as " the cave in Fées" , is composed of three tables of approximately 6m on 5m. The name of this dolmen indicates that a legend sticks to its origin. Three female creatures would have built the building in one night; if one warned oneself to move the stones, those would take again their place in one night. Another tradition wants that the fairies elected residence inside the dolmen.

With the bedside of the parish church is a great glassmaking of the 16th century representing the fountain of life. The cross is drawn up in the middle of a press where fall out of jets blood from Christ. This vermilion blood escapes from the tank by four will mascarons which appears the attribus of the four evangelists. The apostles, the Virgin and holy Madeleine contemplate a scene which finds all its resonance in a country of vineyard.
