Saint-Angel (Corrèze)

Saint-Angel is a common French located in the department of the Corrèze.
In 1793, Saint-Fréjoux-the-Minor amalgamates with Saint-Angel
Revolutionary name: Angel-the-Mountain
The inhabitants of Saint-Angel are " Saint-Angelois, Saint-Angeloises"

Geographical location

  • Many forests of coniferous tree (Douglas and woodland pines).

History

The village owes its name to the priory founded with the VIIIe century and dedicated to Saint-Michel of the Angels. It was a place occupied by English during the Guerre One hundred Year old: the end of the occupation was marked by the fire of the Prieuré in 1375.

Monument

Priory Saint-Michel-of-Angels of origin XIIe century, rebuilt with the XVe century and XVIIe century. With the strengthened church and the conventual buildings, the round tower of the presbytery form a harmonious and imposing unit. There remain still liturgical objects and statues of the XVIIe and XVIIIe century but unfortunately of superb virgins out of wooden Polychrome were recently flights.
