The sahiwal is a bovine race indo - Pakistani.
Origin
It comes from the province of the Penjab. It is high there since centuries in large herds in dry zone. The development of the irrigation reduced their herds but research in experimental farm increased their dairy productivity.
Elle was exported towards the Australia at the beginning of the Années 1950 where it has was used as support with crossings to create powerful dairy races adapted to the tropical Climat dry. (Friesian-sahiwal Australian) Since, this race arrived in central America and of the south like in Africa.
Morphology
It wears an intense red dress to brown where clearer spots can exist. It is of intermediate size with 130 cm with the garrot. It carries the distinctive criteria of the Zébu S: broad hanging ears, bump on the garrot in the males and flask skin under the neck.
Aptitudes
It is a race raised for its dairy production, incidentally for its meat and its labor force. It is one of best dairy races of zebu with 2300 kg by lactation on average.
Elle is rustic in dry tropical climate: it resists well heat and the ectoparasites. (ticks) It is effective transformer of coarse fodder and makes it possible to develop areas where other races would not be profitable. These are also flexible animals which one undertook the breeding for the animal haulage in Africa and with the the Caribbean. Out of India where the cows are crowned, it gives animals for slaughter noted well for their conformation of carcass and their goûteuse and thin meat.
