Saguenay is a Québécois Ville located in the administrative area of the Saguenay-Lake-Saint-Jean of which it is the administrative center. Its inhabitants is called Saguenéens. Administrative and financial center of the city, Chicoutimi is the district more populated with its 67.800 inhabitants in 2005. The city extends from the Lac Kénogami in Saguenay and from the River to Sands to Bay of the ha! Ha!. The new town of Saguenay, created by decree 841-2001 of the Government of Quebec, gathers seven (7) old cities: Chicoutimi, Jonquière, the Bay, Laterrière, Shipshaw, Lake Kénogami and a portion of the territory of Tremblay.
Administration
The Municipal council of the east city made up of the Mayor, elected by the universal direct suffrage, and of 19 city council men, elected each one in their respective electoral district.There are three districts, including two, those of Chicoutimi (which integrates the sector of Canton-Tremblay and the sector of Laterrière) and Jonquière (which integrates the sector of Shipshaw and Lake Kénogami), count 8 districts. The third, the Bay, account three districts. Each city council man thus sits at the Municipal council and one of the 3 councils of district.
The role of the council of district is in particular to cover subjects in bond with town planning, circulation, the snow clearance, the roadway system, the prevention in fire protection, economic development local, Community, social and cultural as well as the culture, the leisures and the parks.
History

Current Ville of Saguenay is the result of fusions of the various cities mentioned above in 2002.
The current name of the municipality was preferred in the name of Chicoutimi at the end of a Référendum.
Demography
District Chicoutimi - 67.800 inhabitants, Jonquière - 58.900 inhabitants and the Bay - 19.300 inhabitants for a total of 146.000 inhabitants (2005, Statistical institute of Quebec)-
98% of the inhabitants has the French like native tongue;
- 0,7% of the inhabitants has the English like native tongue;
- 0,3% of the inhabitants has the French and the English like native tongue;
- 0,6% of the inhabitants has a native tongue other than the French and the English.

Municipal chronology
Saguenay was made up on February 18th, 2002 following fusion of the towns of Chicoutimi, Jonquière, the Bay, of the municipalities of Laterrière, Lake-Kénogami, Shipshaw and of part of the municipality of canton of Tremblay (half of the old territory only). A referendum was held in order to choose the denomination of the new city. Following a tight vote (Saguenay: 35.810, Chicoutimi: 32.399, the name of Saguenay was preferred with that of Chicoutimi.

Economy
The saving in Saguenay is mainly turned towards the tertiary sector (services, communication, research, teaching). Currently, the saving in Saguenay is of transition like that from the area from the Saguenay-Lake-St-Jean. That wants to say that it is relatively badly. It has also several hydroelectric stations, of which that of Shipshaw of a power of more than 800 MW. Despite everything, the area has been in demographic decrease for several years.Alcan lately announced investments of almost 2,1 billion $ US during the ten next years with its complex the Jonquière district.
Education
Saguenay, has two CEGEP, that of Jonquière and Chicoutimi. The University of Quebec with Chicoutimi (UQAC) (http://uqac.ca) ensures the formation of university level. The University is in full effervescence.
Two new houses (sciences of health and aluminum) there were recently inaugurated. The city has also a research center on aluminum, the CTA, (http://imi.cnrc-nrc.gc.ca/CTA/default_f.html) located on the campus of the UQAC, which should double surface.
Shopping malls
Saguenay has five principal shopping malls, the voicis: Place Kingdom/Arr. Chicoutimi, Place of Saguenay/Arr. Chicoutimi, Mégacentre Talbot Barette/Arr. Chicoutimi, Place Jonquière/Arr downtown area. Jonquière and the Jonquière/Arr Galleries. Jonquière. Largest are: Place Kingdom and Places Jonquière downtown area.
Transport
Bus
The Ville of Saguenay has a service of public transport, it is the Shipping company of Saguenay (STS). In 2004, STS had 78 vehicles which were used for the urban transport and counted 157 drivers.There is also a company in Saguenay which transports people towards the Lake-Saint-Jean, the Coast-North and towards the Gare of the Palate of Quebec and the Gare of Holy-Foy for the transfer of the Passagers and the Colis worms of other areas of the Province of Quebec. This company names Intercar.
Air
The air base of the Air force of Canada of Bagotville also comprises a civil section which serves the population for regional flights towards Quebec, Montreal, is province and the Nunavik. In 2006, the airport is recognized like international. Indeed, Sunwing Airlines offers, the winter, from the flights towards the Caribbean. The administration of the airport envisages to offer a customs authority in the next years. For the moment, the plane makes stopover in Quebec to unload passengers and to clear the passengers of Bagotville. It goes thereafter to Bagotville to leave Saguenéens there.
Culture
Saguenay is a very rich city culturally, several spectacles of scale are presented there of which Fabulous History of a Kingdom. It is with the Municipal Palate of the Bay that the play the Fabulous History of a kingdom occurs. This play is a major tourist attraction for the city and the area.
