Saguenay is a Québécois Ville located in the administrative area of the Saguenay-Lake-Saint-Jean of which it is the administrative center. Its inhabitants is called Saguenéens. Administrative and financial center of the city, Chicoutimi is the district more populated with its 67.800 inhabitants in 2005. The city extends from the Lac Kénogami in Saguenay and from the River to Sands to Bay of the ha! Ha!. The new town of Saguenay, created by decree 841-2001 of the Government of Quebec, gathers seven (7) old cities: Chicoutimi, Jonquière, the Bay, Laterrière, Shipshaw, Lake Kénogami and a portion of the territory of Tremblay.
There are three districts, including two, those of Chicoutimi (which integrates the sector of Canton-Tremblay and the sector of Laterrière) and Jonquière (which integrates the sector of Shipshaw and Lake Kénogami), count 8 districts. The third, the Bay, account three districts. Each city council man thus sits at the Municipal council and one of the 3 councils of district.
The role of the council of district is in particular to cover subjects in bond with town planning, circulation, the snow clearance, the roadway system, the prevention in fire protection, economic development local, Community, social and cultural as well as the culture, the leisures and the parks.

Current Ville of Saguenay is the result of fusions of the various cities mentioned above in 2002.
The current name of the municipality was preferred in the name of Chicoutimi at the end of a Référendum.

Saguenay is divided into three districts:
Alcan lately announced investments of almost 2,1 billion $ US during the ten next years with its complex the Jonquière district.
Saguenay, has two CEGEP, that of Jonquière and Chicoutimi. The University of Quebec with Chicoutimi (UQAC) (http://uqac.ca) ensures the formation of university level. The University is in full effervescence.
Two new houses (sciences of health and aluminum) there were recently inaugurated. The city has also a research center on aluminum, the CTA, (http://imi.cnrc-nrc.gc.ca/CTA/default_f.html) located on the campus of the UQAC, which should double surface.
Saguenay has five principal shopping malls, the voicis: Place Kingdom/Arr. Chicoutimi, Place of Saguenay/Arr. Chicoutimi, Mégacentre Talbot Barette/Arr. Chicoutimi, Place Jonquière/Arr downtown area. Jonquière and the Jonquière/Arr Galleries. Jonquière. Largest are: Place Kingdom and Places Jonquière downtown area.
There is also a company in Saguenay which transports people towards the Lake-Saint-Jean, the Coast-North and towards the Gare of the Palate of Quebec and the Gare of Holy-Foy for the transfer of the Passagers and the Colis worms of other areas of the Province of Quebec. This company names Intercar.
Saguenay is a very rich city culturally, several spectacles of scale are presented there of which Fabulous History of a Kingdom. It is with the Municipal Palate of the Bay that the play the Fabulous History of a kingdom occurs. This play is a major tourist attraction for the city and the area.
