The sages (scientific name: Salvia ) is a kind of plants of the family of the Lamiacées which includes/understands more than 900 species, annual, bi-annual, long-lived or shrubby. Ten of them are indigenous in Europe, the Sauge of the meadows for example.
The name comes from the Latin salvare , “to save”. Certain sage species, mainly the officinal sage, have many medicinal virtues indeed. They were regarded with the Moyen-âge as a panacea. The flowered celebrities and the sheets of two species mainly, the sclarée Sage ( Salvia sclarea ) and the officinal Sage ( Salvia officinalis ), were used in Infusion S and Décoction S.
