The Iton is a French Rivière, the last tributary of left bank of the the Eure, a 132 kilometers length. It sprinkles in particular the town of Évreux.
Cours de l'Iton
Iton is born in the Perche around Mill-the-Walk (Département of the Flowering ash). In its higher course, it has the effect of being a river to eclipses: it initially was quartered , by royal decision, in arms forced (arm of derived Verneuil towards the Avre in 1132), before disappearing from surface - absorbed by the pits of Craie - during ten kilometers (this part is called the Dryness-Iton ). This last phenomenon also occurs on the Risle, at some distance from there.
After these episodes, the river crosses plate X Crétacé S - separating the Plaine from Saint-Andrew of the Pays of Ouche and the Campagne of Neubourg - without receiving from tributary (explaining its low flow thus: 3,8 m ³ /s with Évreux). It draws some vast curves around Damville and Évreux before joining the the Eure with Acquigny in the South of Louviers.
Its catchment area (1 300 km ²) been the subject of a diagram of installation and management of water (WISE) under development on 134 communes distributed in two departments, the Eure and Flowering ash.
Hydrology
To Normanville, little downstream from Évreux, to about thirty kilometers of its confluence with the Eure, its flow, observed during 41 years of 1967 to 2007, is assembled to 3,81 m ³ a second, for a catchment area of 1.031 km ².
The river present of the not very important seasonal fluctuations of flow, with high waters carrying the monthly average with 4,3 to 4,8 m ³ a second January at March included with an in February maximum, and low waters of be-autumn, July to October included, characterized by a fall of the monthly medium flow up to 2,94 m ³ in August, which remains rather abundant.
The VCN3 can drop to 1,7 m ³ in the event of quinquennial dries (see note), which remains high.
In addition, the risings are very little important. Thus, the recorded maximum instantaneous flow was of 17,9 m ³ a second on March 27th, 2001, while the maximum daily output was of 17,1 m ³ a second the same day, level of raw which arrives only once per century… The QIX 10 or calculated flow of decennial rising is of 11 m ³ a second, the QIX 20 of 12 m ³ and the QIX 50 of 14 m ³. The QIX 2 and QIX 5 are worth as for them respectively 8 and 9,9 m ³ (see note).
The Lame of water past in the basin is of 117 millimetres annually, which is very little compared with the average of the catchment area of the the Seine (220 mm), and the specific flow (or Qsp) is only of 3,7 liters a second and per square kilometer of basin, that is to say definitely less than for the whole of the basin séquanais (7 ℓ/s/km ²).
