Sagaing

Sagaing is a town of Burma and the capital of the “division” (province) of the same name. It is located on the Irrawaddy, to 20 km in the south-west of Mandalay.

Its population is estimated at 300.000 inhabitants.

Sagaing is a religious and monastic center and has many monstères Buddhist. It was the capital of the Burmeses to the whole beginning of XIVère century, then under the king Naungdawgyi, of 1760 to 1764.

A bridge of 16 spans built by the English, the bridge of Ava, makes it possible to connect Sagaing to Mandalay. The tourists can go there for an excursion at the day since Mandalay. One of the attraction of the city is the bell of Mingun, which with a weight of some 90 tons, would be largest of the world.
