A sagaie is a primitive Arme of jet, launched to the hand like a Javelot or using a Propulseur.

Generally composite, it can comprise a Hampe of wood and a point frayed out of more resistant material: wood of reindeer, Os, Flint (Microlithe S), hard wood. The point or head of sagaie is often the only part which one finds for the prehistoric sagaies .

The types of installation intended to fix the point of sagaie on its pole varied much and are characteristic of different the technocomplexes Paleolithic superior:

• point of sagaie at split base or points of Aurignac, characteristic of the old Aurignacien;
• point of sagaie losangic, characteristic of old Aurignacien;
• point of sagaie with flat part, characteristic of the Solutréen or the higher Magdalénien;
• point of sagaie with groove, characteristic of average Magdalénien;
• point of sagaie at base fourchue, characteristic of average and higher Magdalénien.
