Saga of the Empire skolien

Saga of the Empire skolien is a Space operated in several volumes written by Catherine Asaro.

Historical context

Six thousand years before the beginning of the history, an unknown race visited the Ground and removed from them human beings, which were abandoned on the Raylicon planet. Exiled the spaceships given up at the same time as they could study on Raylicon, which enabled them to control the technology of the space voyage. They founded an interstellar civilization thus, the Empire Ruby, and are reflected in search of the Ground to which they had been torn off… Directed by queens with the capacities of empathy, the Empire Ruby knew a short golden age during which the science of Kyle was developed, which makes possible the existence of psiber-space; without psiber-space, not of data-processing communications of stellar system to stellar system, not of instantaneous connections between the worlds of the Empire.

Too fragile Rubis civilization however crumbled without to have found the Ground, then always in its Stone Age: the relations between the worlds of the Empire were dislocated, perhaps broken by civil wars; colonies were insulated; the secrecy of the space voyage was lost during thousands of years. The Empire Ruby ceased existing.

In X13e century, the mankind populates two thousand four hundred planets, controlled by one or the other of the three interstellar great powers: Imperium Skolien, the Legal settlement of Eubée (or Troqueur Worsens) and Allied Worlds of the Earth (or CHECHMATE). In this future where the Ground is a neutral power, a conflict without end opposes the two great powers which were reconstituted a few centuries before on the ruins of Rubis civilization. Skoliens and Eubiens are characterized indeed by their attitude with respect to the empathes and of the psions without which psiber-space cannot exist. The Ground, arrived at space by its own means, tries to maintain the balance between its two powerful neighbors. Will it be able to avoid a war which threatens to upset the balance of the Galaxy?

Saga presents the interactions between three interstellar civilizations of scale, which extend on the ruins from a disappeared empire.

Worsen Rubis

The civilization of the Empire Ruby is extinct millenia before the time of Saga. So there remains about it for the greatest part only of the myths. The Empire Ruby was based by human beings removed of the Earth and given up on the planet Raylicon by an unknown extraterrestrial race. Rubis civilization was matriarcale, directed by warlike queens who maintained the male harems. The queens of the Dynastie Ruby laid out of capacities of empathy, or talents psionic, whose study led to the discovery of the science of Kyle using which Rubis civilization conceived the Serrures to which can be initiated the Réseau Skol . The Empire Ruby crumbled because of its intrinsic brittleness. The space voyage and the science of Kyle were forgotten by humanity. It is only many millenia later, at the 19th century of the Christian era, that the space voyage was redécouvert on Raylicon. At present, no one was not still able to reproduce the Locks of the Skol Network. The Locks are thus the only artefacts to survive of the Empire Ruby. They are essential to the activation of the Skol Network.

Imperium Skolien

The Imperium Skolien is one of two interstellar civilizations founded on the ruins of the Empire Ruby . It gathers nine hundred worlds controlled by a democratic Assemblée of the people skoliens. Imperium is characterized by its use of the science of Kyle thanks to which it maintains the Réseau Skol founded by the psions Rhon . The Skol Network makes it possible Imperium to maintain a frightening space fleet, FSI . Skoliens print their mark over their time by their scientific talents, as by a true devotion with the causes which theirs are expensive.

Legal settlement of Eubée

The Concordat of Eubée is the other emerged civilization of the Empire extinct Ruby . It is often indicated by the words of Empire Troqueur , but Eubéens do not recognize themselves this designation. The Legal settlement of Eubée is a company of castes defined by genetic criteria: top to the bottom of the scale, one finds the Aristos , the foremen and the donors . It controls thousand two hundred worlds using a military power, the ESA . Eubéens have recourse to slavery like with all forms of repression. They have an acute sense of esthetics and often have a true artistic genius.

Allied worlds of the Earth

The Allied Mondes of the Earth (or CHECHMATE ) depend on the government of the Ground. Of three interstellar civilizations of X13e century, it is the only one not to result from the Empire disappeared Ruby . So its space extension is quite less: the CHECHMATE take care of the destinies of three hundred worlds. The CHECHMATE are unaware of the science of Kyle. They are often described like less powerful than the Imperium Skolien and the Concordat of Eubée , even if the Ground is one of planets best defended of the Galaxy, with equality with the capitals skoliennes and eubéenne. The CHECHMATE are presented like a force more diplomatic than militarist, which seeks to exist by maintaining balance between its two powerful neighbors.
