Saga (emperor)

The emperor Saga (嵯峨天皇, Saga Tennō , 786 - 842) was the fifty-second emperor Japan, according to the traditional order of the succession, and reigned of 809 with 823. Its personal name was prince Kaminu .
Saga was a scholar, knowing traditional the Chinese, and according to the legend, the first emperor of Japan to drinking The. It was also a famous Calligraphe, belonging to the Sampitsu (“three brushes”) of the era Kōnin.

Saga was the second wire of the emperor Kammu, and the young brother of the emperor Heizei, his predecessor.

Biography
In 809, his brother the Heizei emperor, patient, withdraws throne and Saga succeeds to him, but fall sick shortly after in its turn. That gives to Heizei, with which it had been scrambled, opportunity of fomenting a rebellion with his/her concubine Fujiwara No Kusuko. Saga then sends the Shogun Sakanoue No Tamuramaro, which represses the rebellion in a blood bath. Following that, Kusuko commits suicide and Heizei withdraws in a monastery bouddic.During its reign, Saga creates a police force, the Kebishi . He sponsors the buddhist monk Kūkai, and the assistance to establish the Japanese branch of Buddhism Shingon, while making build for him the temple Tô-ji in the Heian-kyō capital (current the Kyōto).
