Safaniyah
Safaniyah is one of largest the oil fields of the world, and by far largest Offshore. Located in Saoudi water of the Persian Gulf, it was discovered in 1951 by Chevron Corporation.
Its ultimate reserves are probably close to 30 with 35 Gbbls, from which approximately 20 would have been already extracted. The production would have declined appreciably recently, passing from 2 Mbbls /j in 2000 to 1,7 from now on. As always with the Saoudi oil sector, all the quantities are to be taken with precaution.
The oil of Safaniyah is of rather low quality: heavy (27° API) with a high content of Sulfur (3 %). It provides especially heavy fuel for industry and the navy.
