Sadoq (of the Hebrew צדוק, Tsadok meaning the Just ) was the Large Priest of the Temple of Solomon.

He is the son of Ahitoub (II Samuel, VIII-17), wire of Pinhas, wire of Eli (the Priest of the Sanctuary of Silo) and whose genealogy would go back to Eleazar.

At the time of the rebellion of Absalom, Sadoq was chosen by David for officer with Abiathar with the ritual sacrifice (II Samuel, XX-25) in front of the Ark of the Covenant still under the tent.

It became Grand Priest under Solomon (I Kings, II-27) to be used for the Temple. His/her own son: Azaria was also appointed with this office (I Kings, IV-2) what supposes that the Great Priesthood became, under its influence, hereditary.

One generally associates Sadoq with the Sadducéens no matter what one is unaware of truly the range of his priesthood and his dynasty. One can suppose close links between the davidic royalty and a form of sacerdotal orthoxy to the remarks of Ézéchiel.
