The sadomasochism ( sadomasochism or SM) is a sexual Pratique consisting in using the Douleur, the Domination or the Humiliation in the search for Plaisir.

History

Although old books as the Kâmasûtra quote the bites and the scratches like means of arriving at the extase, the culture Judeo-Christian regards the use of the pain a practice with share and, generally, as a perverse practice . The Psychiatrie carries the same glance on this practice.

The term is a Mot-valise made of Sadisme and Masochisme . The first name applies to that which must make suffer (physically or not) the object from its desire to arrive at the pleasure, the second indicates that which must feel this pain and the domination which accompanies it to reach the same effect. Sadisme is a derivative of the name of the Philosophe of the Lumières, Sade, author whose accounts often put in scene sexual relationships based on the suffering and humiliation, while masochism comes from the name of Sacher-Masoch, Austrian writer whose novel Venus with the fur tells an love affair becoming gradually a relation of domination.

It is however necessary to moderate these etymology S: in Venus with the fur , the pleasure which takes the narrator to become the slave of a woman and the lover of this one is quite relative. It is thus necessary to be careful with the analogy between the romantic history and the modern thought of sadomasochism. In the same way, “sadism” describes in works of Sade could not be reduced to only one practical sexual and has only little to see with the modern representation that one is done some. It represents, in a more general way, a philosophical confrontation between the thought of the good man by nature and the bad man who must attach his passions. The sadomasochism of Sade Formula One a vision of the world by the sexual image which is actually a moral confrontation of values and systems.

The use of the sadistic term within the framework of sadomasochism implies a relation of codified domination. It implies a set of established rules between the partners, which fixes limits in the acts posed. The sadistic term represents thus more one dominant person that really sadist. A relation between a true sadist and a masochist is very rare within the framework of a free and enlightened assent. Such a relation normally does not take place that in the context of a relation of emotional dependence lived by the person subjected within the framework of clinical psychological problems. See DSM-IV

Sadomasochistic masochism and laws

In the Western countries, sadomasochism is not prohibited by the law if it is practiced between agreeing adult partners who, often, establish a relation of Master with very stable slave. However, the European Cour of the human rights (CEDH) ruled in business K.A. and c/Belgic D.D. on February 17th, 2005 against a practice of sadomasochism if the person " esclave" way so tacit express but the stop of these practices required. Thus it seems that there is an evolution of the Jurisprudence against the sadomasochistic practices.
