The Japanese original title is " Utsukushisa to Kanashimi to" , appeared to him in 1965.
Summary
The book speaks about the history of a woman who finds old in love. And milked problems with the family of the man, and the stories of love of the women.
Oki Toshio, famous writer, undertake to join again with its past while going to Kyôto to listen there, the New Year's Day day before, the bells of the monasteries which sound the passage from one year to another. By doing this, he hopes to re-examine that which was its mistress more than twenty years before: Otoko, now painter of reputation installed in Kyôto. Otoko lives with Keiko, an young girl of one seizing beauty, burning nature and relentless which will get busy to conclude a singular revenge, whose tragic exit will make forever vain any attempt at Oki for ressusciter the past.
