Saddle-in-Hermoy
Saddle-in-Hermoy is a common French, located in the department of the Loiret and the area Center. It is in the south-east of the Gâtinais French. The origin of its name goes back to the Middle Ages, and comes from That (Cellae), which was a small retirement of monk or hermit. Hermoy is a not very fertile plate wedged between the valley of the Ouanne, the Loing and Cléry. This plate gathers the communes of Chuelles, Thorailles, the Vault-Saint-Sepulchre and Saddle-in-Hermoy.
Geography
History
It seems that the first traces of the history of Saddle-in-Hermoy are closely related to the presence of iron ore to open sky, which supported the establishment of monks cistercians as of the Middle Ages. These monks were the first to clear the plate of Hermoy in order to develop agriculture to with it. As much communes of this area, The-Saddle Hermoy suffered from the One hundred year old War, in particular under the attacks of the English mercenaries directed much by Robert Knolles (that the inhabitants of Hermoy kept in memory under the name of Canolles). Being raised with difficulty of the consecutive plagues that the war and the Black Death represented, Saddle-in-Hermoy thrived then thanks to its agriculture, its culture of wood, its factories of tiles and bricks.
