Sachsenburg (concentration camp)

Close to the castle of Sachsenburg with Zschopau in Saxony in what was then the spinning mill " Gerhard Tautenhahn" , the Nazis set up one of the first concentration camps. 85 prisoners, for the majority of the civils servant of Chemnitz, have to build this camp as from May 1933.

Between 1933 and 1937,2 000 antifascists were locked up there. They were to carry out work degrading under inhuman conditions.

11 prisoners were killed at least there. The number of those which died in consequence of ill treatments remains unknown.
