Saïfa-Arad
Newaya Krestos , king of Ethiopia under the name of Saïfa-Arad “ Terror of the swords ” (1344 - 1372). He is the son of the Négus Amda Seyon Ier.
Biography
Saïfa-Arad pacifies the Tigré and victoriously fights a revolt of the Moslems of the Ifat.
Under its reign, Ethiopia acquired such a prestige that it makes figure of protective official patriarchate of Alexandria. In 1352, on order of the métropolite Abba Salama, the Ethiopian ones avenge the imprisonment for the patriarch of Alexandria Marc by the execution or the forced conversion of Egyptian merchants who were on their territory. The tradition reports that they would have led a forwarding armed until in the Vallée with the Nile.
