S 12 AL 1301 to 1308

The ''' Pacific ''' series S 12 numbers 1301 to 1308 were locomotive with vapor built by EMBG with Graffenstaden following an order of 1907 of the imperial railroads of Alsace-Lorraine (EL) and delivered in 1909.

Description

These Pacific had a motor four cylinders compound uncrossed with the two HP outsides and two BP interiors and the distribution were of the type “Walschaert”. The hearth was a hearth “Belpaire” with narrow grid. The exhaust was variable. The Bogie of the “Alsatian” type with internal members was non-braked. The back Essieu was not treated as a Bissel. They all were provided with screens scented.

Ultimately these Pacific in was not really. Indeed they were the result of the will of the EL to lay out of a series of machines similar to the Ten-Wheels of the series S 9 but with an increased power. In fact in front of the increase in the weight it was decided to add an axle to authorize the new arrivals on the slightly armed lines, but without profound changes of the original machines. Thus is explained the not-treatment of the axle in bissel but also the very short distance between this one and the last coupled axle.

Use and service

the SNCF recovered only 7 built machines out of the 8 because the 1305 was lost in Germany in 1918. They were registered 1-231 has 301 to 308 and assigned to the heavy rapids and express train then average in front of the increase in the weight of the trains in circulation. The last unit was the 1-231 has 301 which was erased in September 1951. The following deposits were the holders of these machines: Strasbourg, Thionville and Island Napoleon and for some there was an assignment with the Railway network Guillaume-Luxembourg.

Tenders

The tenders which theirs were coupled were always the same ones: they were the tenders inspired by those of the 221 Is 2601 and 2602 (future: 1-221 has 601 and 602 , cousins of the Atlantic of the Compagnie of the railroads of North) to Bogie S containing 21 m ³ water and 6 T of coal registered 1301 to 1308 then 1-21 have 301 to 308 .
