The great adventure stops with the departure of Maradona, this last being positive control with cocaine, the end of this season 1991 and one ultimate trophy (Supercoupe of Italy).

After Maradona is sportivement badly managed since with its departure, it is the ambition of the club which is re-examined with the fall and the 4th place obtained in 1992 marks the end of a prestigious cycle. Seasons after seasons, the team is dismantled and does not play gradually any more the top of the table until going down in Serie B in 1998. Supporters

The Neapolitan public is without any doubt one of more impassioned football on the old continent, but it is initially the reflection of a city (old Greek colony as well as Marseilles or Barcelona) with a strong identity, with the southernmost character and omnipresent poverty. With the image of the inequalities between north and south of Italy, the club always made with average quite the lower than those of the clubs of north like the Milan AC or the Juventus of Turin and it is with much pride that the Neapolitan ones always supported the club representing their city. Touched by poverty, it is during the glorious era of Maradona that the Neapolitan public reaches the Italian and European recognition. Even at the bottom of the pit, the Tifosi always remained faithful to the club, since during their two seasons in series C, these is on average 40.000 supporters which came to encourage the blue and white ! They do not hesitate to follow of number their team in displacement through all the Italy. Napoli is the privileged conversation of all the city and all the area; what besides often appeared as certain handicaps, very important waiting and impatience to find last glories often slowed down the rebuilding of the club with a long-term plan. One can count on the fingers of a hand the number of city in Europe where the club has this importance for its inhabitants. The Neapolitan tifoseria is twinned with that of Genoa and there exists a strong friendly relation with those of Ancona, Palermo and Avellino. .
