SO-DIMM
A dual SO-DIMM or small outline in-line memory module (in French, module report of small size with double line ) is a type of Integrated circuit of Computing memory.
The SO-DIMM are an alternative of size more compact than DIMM, because they are approximately two foix less long. As such, the SO-DIMM are mainly used in the laptops, the small PC (like those equipped with a Mother chart with the format Minis-ITX), the Imprimantes of top-of-the-range office and equipment for networks like Routeur S.
The SO-DIMM have 100,144, or 200 pins ( pines in English). Those with 100 pins support the transfer of information in 32 bits, whereas those with 144 and 200 pins function in 64 bits. This is to be compared with the traditional modules DIMM which have 168,184, but 240 pins, but functioning all in mode 64 bits.
The various types of SO-DIMM are easily identifiable by the notches which are on the level of the line of pins: the modules with 100 pins have two notches, those with 144 pins almost located only one of them at the medium, and those to 200 have of them as only one, but further away from the center as the preceding one.
However, for these last SO-DIMM with 200 pins, one finds two sites quasi-indifférenciables notch: if it is placed more towards outside, it is about a module of memory GDR ; if the notch is more towards the center, it is about memory DDR2. These two types of memory are not not interchangeable, it for what the position of the notch is slightly different.
Modules SO-DIMM are more or less fed in the same way that modules DIMM, and as technology progresses quickly, they are available in the same speed ranges as the DIMM (for example in PC3200, with speeds of clock such as 2.0,2.5 and 3.0 of Latence CASE), and of the capacity of 512 Me, 1 Gio, etc
