SIG-550

SIG-550 is the Fusil of official attack of the Swiss Armée (Rifle with Attack; Fass 90) manufactured by SIG. Conceived into the Years 1980, it was introduced gradually as of 1988 into the Swiss army, thus replacing the Stgw 57/Fass 57 (also built by SIG). After soon twenty years of active service, the SIG 550 was declined in various versions, was sold with several groups of intervention, and remains an excellent rifle of attack which did not take a wrinkle. It is not besides for only Sig continuous to offer it to export and that it is still its leading product as regards weapons of shoulder.

Technique

The lawful SIG 550 in Switzerland uses the 5,6 mm Swiss conceived for a normal range of 300 meters. The versions " Export" confine the 5,56 mm NATO. An interesting characteristic of the SIG 550/551/552 lies in their translucent plastic store (20 and 30 blows) which can be overlapping to facilitate a fast recharging. The SIG 550 is effective up to 400 meters with the use of the rise drum and the handlebar (600 m with glasses).

Its principal qualities are facilitated maintenance and the precision, certainly obtained with the detriment of lightness and the handiness, paramount in urban combat. It is a weapon designed for combat of the " type; guérilla" with embusqués gunners, mobile, connected with the sniper S. It is possible besides to mount glasses on SIG-550.Tous have a selector of fire allowing for choice of the mode of desired shooting: semi-automatic, gust of three blows, automatic or safety. They can moreover accommodate various apparatuses of assistance to the aiming in the place of their standard bodies of shooting.

Their chargers are designed in a translucent plastic material so that the gunner can at a glance evaluate how much cartouches it remains in its store (which contains 20 or 30 initially of them). Several chargers can be embedded the ones against the others, although generally the users do not exceed three specimens because of the embarrassment generated per too many additional stores. The stick of the various SIG is hollow and folding to facilitate their transport.

It is conceived to make it possible an initial gunner to place its 20 first cartridges in a target of 50cm of diameter to 300m.

Users

In addition to the fact that it is the weapon of ordinance of the Swiss army, the SIG 550 is proposed with export under various versions. Many commandos, among whom the Commandos marinades French, use it in short version.
