SGI Onyx2

Description

The machine SGI, onyx2 is used for scientific visualization. It belongs to the range of the machines Origin 2000 of the company Silicon Graphics.

History

Appeared in 1998, it had at the origin of the processors Mips R10000. Thereafter, it was possible to update the configurations to use processors R12000. In the same way, the graphics cards had several versions in time. One found Infinity Reality 2 thus, then of Infinity reality 3, to finish by Infinity reality 4.

Technique

Modulate CPU

A graphic module occupies a half of rack, a complete module contains graphic extensions (of technology IR2, IR3 or IR4).
