SC Union 06 Berlin is a German club of Football based with Berlin.
History
With the 1.FC Union Berlin, SC Union 06 is the successor of the SC Olympia 06 Oberschöneweide. At the end of the season 1949-1950, Union Oberschöneweide finishes second of the League of Berlin and is thus qualified for the final turn of the championship of Germany. But the club, based with Köpenick, a district of East Berlin, is seen prohibiting displacement with Kiel by the Soviet occupying forces. Indeed, the tensions between the four powers occupying increase and the Cold war started, symbolized in football by the creation of a championship of East Germany one year earlier. The team thus decides to flee with the Western and separates from the club of East Berlin. A few days later, Union 06 can play the final, but loses it against Hamburg, 7-0.Union 06 remains competitive and very popular for a long time. In 1951 and 1952, Union finishes vice-champion of the League of Berlin (one of the five leagues which form the first German division), before gaining it in 1953 and to qualify itself thus again for the final turn of the championship of Germany. At that time, Union plays in front of an important public and Poststadion (or the Olympiastadion during the finales) is often full, in particular thanks to the many supporteurs who continue to come from East Berlin. In March 1952 is disputed a “fratricidal duel” with the Union Oberschöneweide, match gained by the SCU 2 to 0.
Thereafter, the absence of results (Union is relegated in the second division in 1960) involves a disaffection of the public quickly, the more so as the construction of the Berlin Wall in 1961 deprives the club of supporteurs from East Berlin. Since 1964, the club is relegated in the third division, then in the fourth division.
After the fall of the Wall, the SC Union joins again with its origins: teams of young people of the 1. FC Union are integrated into the SC Union, then in 1995, the club amalgamates with the SG Oberschöneweide and takes the name of SC Union 06 Oberschöneweide, and plays its home matches in Köpenick. But because of various conflicts, these initiatives are of short duration and the club turns over in the West of the city and takes again its old name. However, in 2006, at the time of the centenary of the club of origin, the two clubs are intended to dispute a friendly match.
