SAMPA
SAMPA , Acronym of Speech Assessment Methods Phonetic Alphabet , is a phonetic character set usable on Ordinateur using the characters ASCII printable 7-bits, based on the International Phonetic Alphabet (API).
Presentation
This phonetic character set was originally developed at the end of the Années 1980 for 6 European languages by the Programme of research and development of the technology the information SPIRIT of the the EEC (which preceded the current European Union then).As many symbols as possible was taken again the API one and, when that was impossible, other symbols available were used, for example for Schwa, its vowel in French two and for its vowel in French nine .
The characters S {mpA: represents the English pronunciation of name SAMPA.
