S. NR. Goenka

S.N. Goenka is a professor of Méditation Vipassana in the tradition of Sayagyi U Ba Khin, of Burma.

Although of Indian origin, Mr. Goenka was born and grew in Burma. It is there that it came into contact with its Master Sayagyi U Ba Khin, and learned from him the technique of Vipassana. After having studied with its professor during fourteen years, Goenka turned over to India and started to teach in 1969. In a country still divided by the castes and the Religion S, its courses attracted thousands of people of all the components of the company.

In 1982, it started to name assistant-teachers to help it to face the increasing demand of course. Under its control, centers of meditation were established in India, in the United States, in Australia, in New Zealand, in France, in the United Kingdom, in Japan, in Sri Lanka, in Thailand, in Kampuchea, in Burma, in Nepal, in Taiwan and in other countries.

The technique that Goenka ensign points out the lesson of the Bouddhisme Theravada but insists largely on its universality.
