Sławno
Sławno (in German Schlawe , in cachoube Słôwno ) is a town of Poland located in the Western Voïvodie de Poméranie (Powiat de Sławno). The city counts 13.525 inhabitants (2005).
Geographical location
Sławno is located at the North-East of the Western Voïvodie de Poméranie, between Koszalin (to 35 km) and Słupsk (to 27 km). , on the Wieprza. The the Baltic and Darłowo are to 20 km.The international road E28 (Berlin - Szczecin - Gdańsk) passes near the city.
History
At the 12th century, a Fortified town poméranienne is to 4 km in the North-East of the current city. Sławno is the seat of a Castellan and becomes the capital of a independent Duché. The first duke of Sławno is Racibor I {{er}}. Its descendants reign on the duchy until the beginning of the 13th century. Then, the duchy of Sławno is annexed by the Eastern Poméranie of Mestwin II. In 1308, the Margraviat de Brandebourg seizes Sławno. In 1316, the duchy of Sławno is annexed by the duchy of Poméranie Western. In 1317, Sławno receives the urban Privilège S (Droit of Lübeck). At the 14th century, the city becomes an important center of the trade of the Textile.
The city leaves completely destroyed Guerre Thirty Years. It counts nothing any more but 40 inhabitants. In 1653, the city passes in the hands of the Hohenzollern and the Brandebourg-Prussia. Starting from 1701, it belongs to the Royaume of Prussia. At the beginning of the 20th century, the metal industries and wood develop. Before the beginning of the Second world war, the city counts 9.746 inhabitants. In 1945, following the Conference of Potsdam, the city is attached to Poland. The German are expelled and replaced by Polish.
