Süddeutsche Zeitung

Süddeutsche Zeitung ( Newspaper of Germany of the South ) is, in front of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and Die Welt, one of three plus famous daily newspapers German. Created with Munich in 1945, it is of liberal tendency of left. It is known through the country like independent, tolerant and open on the world.

Leading line

In spite of its name, the Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ) is a newspaper of national reference in Germany but also outside the country. The leading line of center left turns into to newspaper an opponent (the single one say some) with the government Land of Bavaria directed by CSU (center right) since 1949.

The national edition presents four headings: Policy, Culture, Economy and Sports. The Bavarian ones contain pages of local information.

History

The creation of the newspaper

The October 6th 1945, six months after the end of the Second world war, the Süddeutsche Zeitung is the first newspaper authorized by the American Armée then posts some in Bavaria. Under the impulse of August Schwingenstein, Edmund Goldschagg and Franz Josef Schöningh, the first number even leaves the evening. The One titrates then:

Difficulties

The crisis of the market of the press releases returns the financial position of the difficult SZ in 2000. New partners enter then the capital of the newspaper.

The same year, the magazine of the newspaper, SZ-Magazin , is source of a scandal concerning of the interview falsified.

Diversification

In spring 2004, SZ launches the Süddeutsche Bibliothek : each week, one of the 50 more famous news of the 20th century is available in the kiosks and bookstores.

Following this success, the newspaper launches in October 2004, the collection Klavier Kaiser gathering CD of piano. In December 2004, in order to compete with the Zeit, SZ creates the scientific magazine SZ Wissen .

Lastly, in March 2005, SZ creates the SZ-Cinemathek , a collection of films of large realizers in DVD (600 000 DVD sold in 1,5 months)

This diversification makes it possible the newspaper to become again surplus.
