Sévérac-the-Castle in Occitan Severac (LED Manor house) , is a common French, located in the department of the Aveyron and the area the Midday-Pyrenees.

Geography

History

Occupied as of the Prehistory, the hillock of Sévérac culminates to 817 m of altitude and offers a superb panorama on the neighborhoods.

The origin of the name would come from Sévérus, probably a Gallo-Roman great landowner of the 6th century.

Between 1795-1800, it absorbs Altès, then between 1820-1832, absorbs Novis and Saint-Dalmazy.

Heraldic

The lords of Sévérac carried of money to the four stakes of mouths . The current weapons of the city are derived from those of the dukes of Arpajon and marquis de Sévérac: quartered with the 1° of mouths to the cross clêchée, emptied and pommetée of twelve gold coins, with the 2° of money to the four stakes of mouths, the 3° of mouths to the gold toothing-stone, the 4° of azure to the three flowers of gold lily, to the stick of mouths, on the whole of mouths to the money cross.
