Sémillon
The sémillon is a Cépage of Vigne specific to the development of the soft white wines. It is especially present in South-west (see also French Vin).
The sémillon is the basic type of vine of the white wines marrowy or Liquoreux.
Planted surface is weak and tends to decrease. Indeed the liqueur-like white wines are sold less and less taking into account their price, of their strong degree ic alcohol, of the practice to consume them at the end of the meal (whereas they are formidable aperitif wines) and of their very specific taste which exports mal.
Of more than 30.000 ha at last the century the beginning of, the surface planted in sémillon is estimated at less 15 000 ha nowadays.
This type of vine is vigorous, but the tradition limits its production, in the great fields with approximately 15 hl/ha, priority being given to quality compared to the produites.
quantities
The sémillon is undoubtedly the type of vine which accommodates most favorably Botrytis cinerea, this microscopic mushroom allowing a natural concentration of sugars of the grape. To note that the grape harvest can begin as soon as Botrytis Cinerea developed. Into Of Bordeaux, and in particular in Sauternes, the grape harvest generally begins as of September… in this case one cannot speak about late grape harvest, technique practiced on other type of vines and in other vineyards and which consists in concentrating sugars of the grape by letting them desiccate itself on foot.
The produced wines are very aromatic; the scents of Miel are evoked, of flower of Acacia, Figue S or dry Fruits.
the production zone relates to especially the the Gironde with the Sauternes and the Barsac, the the Dordogne with the Monbazillac and the Lot-et-Garonne.
