Séleucos IV Philopator (“which loves his/her father”), wire of Laodice III of the Pont ( Laodike ) and of Antiochos III, which it succeeds on the throne séleucide, reign of 187 with 175.
Although weakened by the fight against Rome carried out by Antiochos III, the kingdom séleucide is still vast and comprises in addition to the Syria, the Cilicie, the Palestine, the Mésopotamie and part of the current Iran. But the payment of the heavy allowance required by the Romans causes financial problems throughout the reign of Séleucos IV. This last is constrained to send as an hostage his own son, the future Démétrios I {{er}} '' Sôter '', to replace his/her Antiochos brother.
Séleucos sends its minister Héliodore to Jerusalem in 176 - 175 to seize the treasure of the Temple. With the return of this mission, Héliodore assassinates Séleucos. It is plausible that the minister found enough richnesses to suborn part of the army. Antiochos, the brother of Séleucos, takes again the situation in hand on its return of Rome and after having killed Héliodore, on the throne under the name of Antiochos IV Épiphane goes up.
Of its union with Laodice IV of Syria it has a son, Démétrios.
