São Lourenço C Oeste

São Lourenço C Oeste is a city Brésil ienne west of the State of Santa Catarina. It is located by a Latitude of 26° 21 ' 32" south and by a Longitude of 52° 51 ' 03" west, with a Altitude of 880 meters. Its population was estimated at: 20202 inhabitants in 2006. The municipality extends on 369 km ².

General information

The city accommodates every year, in June, a Festival of song at the time of the festival of the municipality, in February, the rodeio crioulo and in May the “festival of piglet”. The economic main activities of the municipality are the Agriculture, the breeding as well as the Industrie of the pastes and cookies. The annual average temperature is there of 17,7°C.

History

The colonization of São Lourenço C Oeste started in 1948. Its first inhabitants came from the Rio Grande C Sul, the Paraná and the Littoral of the Santa Catarina, in the search of fertile grounds for the Agriculture. The first name of the locality was Catanduva . It took then the name of Bracatinga , according to a tree that one found there in great quantity. When the parish of São Lourenço (“French Saint Laurent”) was founded, the name of the municipality becomes São Lourenço C Oeste, in homage to the saint. It was dismembered of Chapecó on June 21st 1958.

Tourism

Nearly 80% of the inhabitants of São Lourenço C Oeste are gauchos or downward of gauchos, even if the city is located at the border of the Paraná. Long-lived inhabitants of the maintiennet city habits of the Rio Grande C Sul, like the consumption of the Maté, traditional dances and the Rodéo S, which attracts many visitors.
