São Joaquim
São Joaquim is a city Brésil ienne of the State of Santa Catarina. It is located at a Latitude of 28° 17 ' 38" south and with a Longitude of 49° 55 ' 54" west, with a Altitude of 1353 meters. The population of the city is estimated at: 23236 inhabitants in 2006. The municipality extends on 1886 km ².
General information
With Urupema, São Joaquim is regarded as the coldest city of the Brésil, with an annual average temperature of 13 °C. During the winter months, snow frequently falls. The lowest temperature officially recorded with São Joaquim was of -10 °C. However, the lowest temperature recorded in Brazil was recorded at the top of the Morro da Igreja, on the territory of the municipality close to Urubici, with -17,8 °C the June 29th 1996, according to nonofficial sources.The municipality extends on 1888 km ². Its economic main activities are the Agriculture (with the typical fruit culture of the cold climates like the Pomme) and the Tourisme.
Every year, the “National Festival of Apple” is held in São Joaquim, attracting many tourists who appreciate his cold climate, his gastronomy and his hospitality.
