Located at about fifty kilometer in the east of the Lake Balaton, Sárbogárd which counts, in 2007 is a Hungarian city, 13.500 inhabitants and raises of the department of Fejér, in Mezöföld. The agglomeration is at the junction point of important roads, in particular the main road number 63 which makes it possible to approach it since Székesfehérvár and Szekszárd. The railway line of Budapest to Pécs and Bátaszék- Baja ramifies on its territory. It profits from a junction ferroutière with Székesfehérvár and Dunaújváros.
Sárbogárd was formed at the 19th century by the fusion of the several close villages: Bogárd, Tinéd, Szentmiklós and Töbörzsök which constitute the central part of the town of today; Sárhatvan, Pusztegres, Kislók and Rétszilas are located in periphery.
The presence of the man is attested since the Neolithic era on the hillocks of Lœss of good quality of production which rise muddy valleys of Sárviz. The ground fort, or the “strong castle” which dates from the Bronze Age finds in the North-East of the city. One found in the area of important remainders of the Roman epoch. At the time arpadienne, this area was the territory of the Petchenègues which defended the passages of Sárviz. The two more important villages of the area were Bogárd and its Tinód neighbor. Their names were adopted by the families which had them. According to the tradition Sebestyén Tinódi Lantos in is originating. Under the Othoman domination the colony was not depopulated and the occupants reinforced its defenses by palanks. At the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century the communities which grew rich slowly built churches and schools.
The most famous character of Sárbogárd is Rudolf Meszlényi, politician of the era of the reforms, which married Zsuzsanna, sister of Lajos Kossuth, and Kossuth married Terézia, sister of Meszlényi. One can still note the family Mészöly, another important family of Sárbogárd, of which the descendants are Géza Mészöly, the painter, and Miklós Mészöly, the writer.
The urban development accelerated with the appearance of the railroad in the second part of the 19th century when Tinód formed a unit with Bogárd. Between the 1854 and 1872 agglomeration became a chief town of canton. In spite of the difficulties of the first part of the 20th century a college functions in Sárbogárd. During the second world war, Sárbogárd was the theater great battles for its possession. The town of today is the result of the development after 1945.
Fusion with Sárszentmiklós and Pusztaegres in 1986 enabled him to find its row in the canton.
Since the Eighties of last century, the pupil of the college maintain the exchanges with French pupils by the means of Burgundy-France-Hungary association.
