Ruukki

Ruukki is a old municipality the North-West of the Finland, in the area of Ostrobotnie of North.

Formed in 1973 by the meeting of the rural communes of Paavola and Revonlahti, it disappears in its turn on January 1st, 2007 by fusion in Siikajoki.

Revonlahti was the framework of important a battles at the time of the Guerre of Finland, the April 27th 1808, when Swedish troops higher of number surprised a Russian column of 1.800 men, almost entirely détruirent it and captured even a Russian general.

Geography

The commune is located in full heart of the large plains of Ostrobotnie, crossed by the peaceful river Siikajoki. It is bordered by the municipalities of Raahe in the west, Siikajoki in the North-West, Lumijoki in north, Liminka in the North-East, Rantsila in south-east and Vihanti in the south.
