Ruslan Ponomariov

Ruslan Ponomariov (October 11th 1983 with Gorlovka, Ukraine -) is a player of failures.

In 1995, he becomes world champion of less than 12 years. In 1996, at 12 years only, he becomes champion of Europe of less than 18 years. He obtains the title of international Large-Master in 1998, at the 14 years age. At the time, it is the youngest GMI of all times.

In 2002, it finally beats its compatriot Vasily Ivanchuk of the championship of the world of FIDE on the score of 4,5-2,5. At 18 years, he becomes the youngest world champion of the history of the set of failures. The same year, it finishes second with very extremely the Tournoi of Linares behind Garry Kasparov.

A match against Kasparov was to be organized in September 2003 with Yalta, within the framework of the process of reunification of the championship of the world (called the “agreement of Prague”). After many bounces, Ponomariov refuses to sign its contract and the match is cancelled. It preserves its championship of the world until Rustam Kasimdzhanov gains the following championship in 2004.

In 2005, it is classified second with world cup FIDE, losing finally against Levon Aronian.

With the classification of July 2007, he is 20th world player with a Classement Elo of: 2706.

Anecdote

The October 11th 2003, the day of its 20th birthday, he becomes the first player of foreground to lose a part because of the ringing of sound Mobile phone. That occurs at the time of the first round of the championship of Europe of the clubs with Plovdiv, in Bulgaria, against the GMI Swedish Evgenij Agrest.
