Rush hour

The rush hour is the period of the Jour born during which a traffic is more important. It can be a question of a big number of travellers in a station for example, or of a great number of vehicles on the road. These periods correspond in general to the moment when the majority of people go to their work (between 7:00 and 9:00) and the evening when they return from there (between 17:00 and 20:00).

Most of the time, it is on the basis of flow of traffic for this period that the managers of the transport infrastructures, as well for the roads as for the networks of Public transport, dimension those. In order to avoid a too important imbalance between the rush hour and the remainder of the day, resulting in capital costs high and an underutilization of the infrastructure for the hollow periods, an elementary strategy consists in encouraging the users who it can make use of these infrastructures at the other periods. Thus, various joint grid systems propose cheap rates apart from the rush hours, while certain cities having introduced a urban Péage charge a price different according to the hour from the day.
