Rural improvement of land

Legislative definition in France

Since the law n°2005-157 of February 23rd, 2005 relating to the Development of the Rural Territories, the rural Improvement of land is defined by the article Article L.121-1 of the rural code like this:

The purpose of the rural Improvement of land is to improve the conditions of exploitation of the agricultural or forest rural properties, to ensure the development of rural natural spaces and to contribute to communal or inter-commune town and country planning defined in the local plans of town planning, the communal charts or the documents by holding place, in the respect of the objectives mentioned with the articles L. 111-1 and L.111-2.

It specifies moreover than the procedures are led by communal, inter-commune commissions or secondary roads of improvement of land, under the responsibility of the department.
