Rural Crosses of Landersheim

The are the five religious crosses village of Landersheim, including three that R.Engel studied.

Situation

The are located at Landersheim, in the Département of the Low-Rhine, close to Saverne. Saverne is a common Frenchwoman, meadows of the town of Strasbourg, in Alsace,

Crosses

The oldest cross, gone back to 1718, is at the exit East of the locality. It is a cross with niche with the blossomed arms.

Another cross, gone back to 1757, “Rohrkritzel”, is in the east of locality, at the edge of a way of the fields in extreme cases of the round of applause. It is about a cross with niche with the blossomed arms.

A last cross, gone back to 1790, is in the North-East of the locality, on a slope, with the locality “Am Esel”. It is about a cross Crucifix with niche, decorated with a flower on the trefoil one of the amount and heads with cherubs on the trefoil ones of the cross-piece. The Christ, whose head was destroyed, is surmounted inscription " INRI" and has the feet posed on a cranium.

Crucifixes

Located on the old road of Strasbourg at Saverne, two Crucifix, damaged on several occasions by motorists, were replanted safe from circulation.

The first crucifix, gone back to 1816 is established today close to a Peuplier. It took care formerly on the village and the procession S of Rogations made station there. Practically destroyed, it was restored in 1991 by the family Nonnen Macher.

The second crucifix is on the road towards Willgottheim. Called “Geiste Kritz”, it was set up towards the end of the XIXe century. Severely damaged, it was restored in 1995, on the initiative of the SHASE.
