Rumba

History

The rumba is born with Havana and Matanzas in the middle of the Années 1800 in the mediums Afro-cubain s.
The word (derivative of the Spanish rumbo , on the way …) indicate the night festivals where one gathers (often in the courses of buildings, “solares”) for Chant er and Danse r.
It is a made Musique Chant S and of percussions, where the rate/rhythm which starts gently goes in accélérant.

There are three forms:

Columbia: The oldest form, whose rate/rhythm is into 6/8. Would have been born with Matanzas. The texts speak especially about work (Café, Canne with sugar…).

It is primarily a Danse men at the fast rate/rhythm, each one its tower shows its skill at once followed by another which will try to exceed it.

Yambú : After a rather long introduction called “Diana” where soloist and chorus S alternate, the Danse ur, imitating a suffering old man of Rhumatisme is pressed on its dancer. Its Danse, vain, sensual and elegant emphasizes it.

Guaguancó (most popular, derived from Yambú, resulting from Havana)

The narrative texts treat daily life: Political, Love… The dance articulates around the “vacunao” with erotic significance , symbolized by a gesture of the Danse ur or by a Foulard which will catch the dancer, and which this one seeks to avoid all along the Danse. In the guaguancó, the rate/rhythm takes form 6/8 or 4/4. It is the Clave rumba (3-2) which is generally used.

Rumba flamenca

During the 18th century, the cuban Guaracha will be adopted by the Gipsies of Seville in Spain and in Portugal, and will take the name of rumba flamenca. It is before a a whole convivial music, not very complicated (rhythmic rather simple and repetitive plus solo) it is ideal to play several, between initial and experienced players. Catalan Rumba

The birth of the rumba catalana starts in the streets of the Deepening of Barcelona with characters such as Orelles or El Toqui. The Catalan rumba is a derivative of the rumba flamenca but it integrates influences of the Its Cuban and Mambo. Most important representing Catalan tumba, developed mainly as from the Sixties is Peret, of its true name Pedro Pubill Calaf, inventor of the Ventilador . The Catalan rumba mixes the ingredients of the rumba flamenca, the sound and the mambo but also of the rock'n'roll. Among its most famous ambassadors let us quote: Peret, Gato Perez or Pescaílla…

In the Années 1920 will be born the Congolese rumba (or Zairean).

Dance of living room
