Rufino Tamayo

Rufino Tamayo is a painter Mexicain born in 1899 with Oaxaca with the Mexico and died in Mexico City in 1991.

Arrived in 1907 at Mexico City it moves gradually towards art and painting. It will côtoiera the Mexican painters Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera whose work will influence it. Discovering a style specific and dependant to its origins Zapotèque S, he will be recognized in his country, in the United States and Paris where he will paint in particular with UNESCO.

After its death was created in Oaxaca a Musée bearing its name, gathering some of its works as well as notable objects précolombien S.

Its works

  • Claustrofobia (1954), sold 969.950 € in June 2004.
  • Three characters , a major work painted into 1970 which had been stolen in 1987 with a couple texan, and which miraculeusement had been miraculeusement found in 2003 by a New Yorkean in the middle of bags-poubells, was sold more than one million dollars in November 2007 by Sotheby' S.
