Ruf of Avignon

Saint Ruf is the toponym of several sites occupied by the congregation of the regular canons of Saint-Ruf. This congregation was formed starting from a small community of clerks installed in 1039 in the church of Saint-Ruf, a ruined church of the suburbium of Avignon, mentioned starting from Xe century. One knows few things of that which gave its name to this place of worship. It was identified with two characters of New Testament, without to give place to a thorough Hagiographie.
