Rudolfinum

The Rudolfinum is a building Néorenaissance located place Jan Palach at Prague. It is used as (in particular for the Czech Philharmonic orchestra) and showroom concert hall (Rudolfinum Gallery).

History

Rudolfinum opens its doors on February 7th, 1885 like cultural complex including/understanding of the showrooms and a concert hall. It is a gift of the Czech savings bank (Česká Spořitelna) at the town of Prague and the Czech nation at the time of the fiftieth birthday of its foundation. It owes its name to the crown prince to the Empire Austro-Hungarian, Rodolphe of Austria to which it is dedicated.

The architectural contest which led to its construction was gained by the architects Josef Zítek and Josef Schulz, authors, in 1881, of the National theater.

In the Inter-war period, Rudolfinum is used with the Czechoslovakian Parliament as plenary room. A general rebuilding takes place between 1990 and 1992.
