Rudolf Noureev

Roudolf Khametovitch Nouriev (or Noureev or Noureyev; in}; in) Danseur star born the March 17th 1938 is a in Russia during a voyage by train a little front Irkoutsk towards Vladivostok. After having been dancer soloist with the Kirov, it is made naturalize Austrian. It was equipped with an exemplary technique.

It was one of the best interpreters of the traditional repertory, but it affirmed also its talent in the modern dance.

In 1963, he dances in Marguerite and Armand with Margot Fonteyn with the Royal Opera House of London, then in Bach Suite in 1983. Also choreographer, he was director of the dance to the Opéra of Paris (1983 - 1989). Admiror of the school French and unconditional of Bournonville and Petipa, fighting against death, it goes up two works of this last: Raymonda (1898) and Bayadère (1877).

It was also one of the first dancers who was interested again in the repertory baroque.

Chronological biography

Thursday, March 17, 1938 : His/her father records it on April 4th with the town hall of Razdolnaïa, the city nearest to his military camp. No witness can give his hour of birth precisely, the night fall very early in Siberia at this period the year. For 16 month, he will live on the basis of artillery of Razdolnaïa.
July 1939 : his/her sisters, her mother and take to him the Transsibérien (14 days of voyage) to gain Moscow, where Hamet is transferred.
Until 1945 : Hamet serves on the second face in Ukraine with the rank of lieutenant of the Red Army .
October 1941 : his/her sisters, her mother and leave Moscow to him, following the first bombardments. They arrive at Tchichouana. They lived there in a part of 9 m ² with an old couple of almost eighty years.
Spring 1942 : they move in Oufa, in an uncle of its father who kept the name of Fasli. They live with the angle of the streets Svedlova and Zentsova with another family, in an apartment of 14 m ². Hamet is promoted captain, but sends rare missives to his.

December 31st, 1945 : the company of dance of Oufa, accompanied dancers taken refuge by the Bolchoï and Kirov, give a representation to the Opera of Oufa. Rudolf is under the shock by seeing the first ballet, the Song of the storks , with the trained principal dancer bachkire with Leningrad, Laïtuna Nazretdinova, in a choreography of Nina Anisimova. It decides to become dancer.
August 1946 : Hamet returns for the first time to the house. It re-examines its family which it had not seen any more for more than 6 years. It will entirely disturb the routine since then installed. It will want “to virilize” the activities of his only son, depriving it of dance and vainly initiating it with fishing.
1946 : the family moves with the n° 37 of the street Zentov. Rudolf takes part in the spectacle of dance of the Young Guides. He wants to learn the piano, his father prohibits to him.
1949 : Oudeltsova, former dancer of the Russian Ballets of Diaghilev, becomes its private professor of dance. It takes courses per week twice free. There remain 18 months, time there to learn the bases from the ballet dancing. One advises to him to take courses with Elena Konstantinova Vaïtovitch, mistress of the ballet to the Opera of Oufa, but his/her father refuses. He will end up following courses with it, in hiding-place.
At 16 years one offers to him a first role of appear for the Opera of Oufa (10 Rouble S by evening). It leaves the traditional school for the school of Working Youth.
About 1954 : Rudolf ends up saving sufficiently to go to Moscow, but he sleeps in the street. After a short escapade, it turns over to Oufa. Victor Kranstovitch Parinas, professor with the Opera of the city, proposes definitively to engage it in his corps de ballet.
July 2nd, 1955 : it receives a convocation to pass the examination of entry to the school of ballet of Saint-Pétersbourg. In the same time, it takes part in a round organized by the Opera of active Oufa until Moscow. It is a question one decade art of bachkir. Following a hearing with Asaf Masserer, one of the largest Russian dancers and legendary figure of the Bolchoï, it is allowed with this theater. Unfortunately, the school does not have a boarding school, it must thus give up it: without purse and the assistance of its family it is impossible.
1955-1958 : studies at the School Vaganova of Leningrad, with the Master Alexandre Pouchkine.
1959-1961 : admitted in the corps de ballet of the Kirov, he quickly becomes soloist about it ( the Corsair , Don Quichotte , the Lake of the swans , Sleeping Beauty ).
June 17th, 1961 : in round in France with Kirov ( Bayadère ), unsubmissive person, it requests the political asylum from the aerodrome of Le Bourget. He is engaged in the Ballets of the Marquis de Cuevas.
1962 : beginnings with the Covent Garden of London ( Gisele with Margot Fonteyn). Exceptional interpreter of creations of Frederick Ashton, Rudi van Dantzig, Small Roland, Maurice Béjart, George Balanchine, Glen Tetley, Martha Graham and Murray Louis. He goes up and adapts the ballets of Marius Petipa.
September 1983 : named directing of the Dance to the Opera of Paris.
November 1989 : it returns on the scene of Kirov of Leningrad after 28 years of exile. It leaves its position of director of the Dance but remains the principal choreographer about it.

Noureev is made Chevalier of the Légion of honor in 1988 and Commandeur of Arts and the Letters in 1992. He dies in Paris on January 6th 1993.

Noureev and the AIDS

When the AIDS appears in France, in the neighborhoods of 1982, Noureev, with the image the many homosexual ones, does not take guard there. It is probably infected by the HIV with the beginning of the year 1980. During many years, he denied the fact; when, about 1990, it becomes sick in an obvious way, it makes pretense be reached many other diseases. It tests several experimental treatments, which do not slow down the inescapable degeneration of its body.

It must however finally face reality. At that time, its courage causes the admiration of many of its detractors. Its physical forfeiture the fact of suffering, but it continues to fight while being shown in public. During its last public appearance, at the time of a representation of Bayadère with the Palais Garnier, the public makes him a ovation upright . The Minister for the culture Jack Lang gives the highest cultural reward to him, doing it knight of the Ordre of Arts and the Letters.

He dies in Levallois-Perret a few months later, at the 54 years age. He is buried with the Russian cemetery of Holy-Genevieve-of-Wood, in the south of Paris.
