Rudi Völler

Rudolf “Rudi” Völler is a former player of German Football , today trainer, born the April 13rd 1960 with Hanau (Germany). Because of its effectiveness and its nature to await the decisive ball rather than to take part in the play, it was called “ the Fox of Surfaces ”.

After having made spoken about him in its own championship, in particular to the Werder of Bremen (better striker of the championship of FRG 1983), it is transferred to the summer 1987 with the ACE Roma, thus following in this championship the traces of its compatriot Karl-Heinz Rumennige, former player of the Inter Milan of 1984 to 1987. Its first season in Italy is difficult (3 goals) but the following ones will be much more prolific. Völler thus leaves the Roman club at the summer 1992 while having registered 45 goals in championship, including 42 at the time of the seasons 1988-1992.

It indeed has just answered favorably Bernard Tapie, then president of the Olympique of Marseilles, which wishes to find a successor experienced and effective of Jean Pierre Papin, the prolific French center-forward who has just been transferred to the AC Milan. Mission accomplished since, shouldered with the outposts by the Croatian young person and promising attacking Alen Boksic, it registers 18 goals in Championship of France of First Division 1992-1993, which added to the 22 of its Croatian fellow-member do of this offensive duet one of most prolific of Europe this season (40 goals with them two). The season finishes way ostentation for Völler, since the Olympic one of Marseilles gains first of all, on May 26th, 1993, the League of the Champions while having finally AC Milan (1-0 goal of Basile Boli); then three days later the Championship of France of the First Division after a victory 3-1 in residence over the direct rival, the Paris-Saint-Germain (3-1). But following the Affaire VOMIT which will burst one month later, this title will not be approved by the National league of Football. In 1993-1994, the OM in the legal and sporting storm can dispute only the domestic competitions (championship and Coupe de France), and must separate from several player-keys in order to sponge a financial deficit related to its European non-participation. Thus, its fellow-member of Boksic attack is transferred to the autumn with the Lazio from Rome, replaced by a Brazilian young person coming from the Servette Geneva, Sony Anderson. Although less effective than the former season (6 goals) Rudi Völler will place itself at the disposal its again and promising partner of attack, while making him benefit from its experiment and its play of handing-over, than profitable the Brazilian one will make which will mark goal on goal until the end of season (16 achievements in 20 matches of championship 1993-1994 for Sony Anderson).

The Olympic one of Marseilles relegated administratively by the National league at the end of season (following the Affaire VOMIT), and Völler arriving at the end of the contract, it turns over to the summer 1994 to Germany, thus finishing its career within the Bayer Leverkusen which enlists it for two seasons.
